Patricia Brown is our Practice Administrator. She has Associates Degrees in Psychology, Social Work and Substance Abuse Counseling and is currently working towards and Bachelors Degree in Psychology & Counseling. She also serves on the Board for Medical Office Administration at Haywood Community College and has done so since 2014.

Her favorite things about working at Smoky Mountain Eye Care are finding ways to help people, beyond just their eyes. Patricia especially enjoys helping the elderly to understand their insurance and teaching them how not to be taken advantage of by other doctors offices or hospitals. Over the years Smoky Mountain Eye Care has worked hard to develop partnerships with Haywood Pathways Center, the Haywood County School System and other nonprofits to provide services and exams for adults and children in need and this is a cause near and dear to Patricia.

Her favorite fake holiday is Nation Peanuts Day; as in Charlie Brown & Snoopy and she loves living in Waynesville for it’s proximity to Asheville while also keeping the small town feel and being so close to Lake Junaluska.

When we talked about eye care trivia Patricia shared that the state of Texas bases its annual prison-growth on the number of children who fail vision screenings in schools because children who cannot see do not do well in school; leading to future anti-social & criminal behaviors. She says that it is data like this that makes her so passionate about children being seen annually for proper eye exams.

Kara Conard is in charge of the Check In Desk here at the office and graduated from Haywood Community College with an associate’s degree in Medical Office Administration in 2015. When asked what her favorite fake holiday was she said she would have to go with Sorry Charley Day. We also talked about interesting eye care trivia that she had learned in her time at Smoky Mountain Eye Care and she recalled that when Dr. Brown looks at patients eyes it is possible to tell by the makeup of their eyes if they are Native American or not. Kara’s favorite thing about Waynesville is its proximity to The Blue Ridge Parkway and Cataloochee Valley.
